Certain occasions in a man’s life demand his best. Weddings, corporate functions, banquets or a sophisticated night on the town. For that special event, style is everything. And in formal wear as in other fashion, styles change. If you’ve got a formal event coming up, don’t wait until the last minute to select the clothes you’ll wear. Take the time to get it right and you’ll make a lasting impression.

2010 marks the return of the timeless elegance of British tailoring in men’s suits. Bond Street is back – and with it, broader shoulders and a slimmer silhouette. The look to emulate is classic tailoring, double-breasted and three-piece suits in black or subtle charcoal pinstripes or herringbones.
Dinner suits and tuxedos now pair classic elements with a frisson of surprise – a satin notched or peaked lapel, or a satin stripe on the trouser leg. The most elegant dress shirt choice is always white; it can be pleated or unpleated, but it must fit correctly. Few bad memories are as indelible as that red-faced wedding party member choking on his overly tight top button.
Accessories are key to a debonair look. The bow tie is making a comeback, and so is the cravat. Dolce and Gabana used silk cravats exclusively instead of ties in their formal men’s wear collection this year. Your shoes are also a critical component of your overall look. The color of your shoes should match the color of your belt. In footwear, all things Italian are in – but then, aren’t they always?
