Does Formal Wear Mean Boring?

All professional men have many occasions where they need to be dressed their best. But it would be a mistake to assume that formal wear must be boring or stuffy. Formal wear can be interesting, flattering, and express each individual’s personality - all while remaining perfectly suited for all formal occasions. In fact, taking time to add excitement and interest to a formal outfit is a sign of a creative mind and an eye for detail.

Much of what can be made unique or eye catching about formal wear lies in the details. A crowd of men in dark suits may all look the same from afar, but up close it is easy to pick out unique touches to each of their outfits. Cuff links, ties, pocket squares, and collar stays or pins can all be customized to add visual interest to formal wear.

While giant flashy cuff links may still ruin the conservative look of a formal outfit, there are styles that show off individuality without being distracting.

A brightly colored pair of green or red cuff links will stand out against a black cuff, providing a hint of color without ruining the formal feel. Some men are tempted to wear novelty ties with formal wear because they feel uncomfortable in the clothing. But novelty ties ruin a formal outfit. Bright green and blue ties have been popular lately, and can be worn by many men. Just be sure not to choose a tie that clashes with your shirt pattern.
